MP calls for audit over alleged corruption in Nyeri government

Nairobi - Tetu MP Ndung’u Gethenji has called for investigations following reports that Nyeri County Government misappropriated KES.158.3 million.
The reports were revealed by the National Taxpayers’ Association pinpointing that only nine projects initiated by the county government were completed out of the 30 projects it initiated.
Gethenji said enquiry should be done by the Senate and find answers on the raised questions.
According to the report, Nyeri spent KES.8 million on the grading and gravelling of Munyu-Jet Junction Villa Road but the all-weather road had already fallen apart by the time it was assessed in September last year.
The MP further asked Governor Nderitu Gachagua and local members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to bury their differences and work together.
“Stop conflicts and find solution to the emerging issues through dialogue. Adopt the right attitude for the benefit of the people,” Gethenji advised.
He made the remarks while addressing his constituents at Kiandu Coffee Factory.
He was accompanied by MCA Wachira Waruru who asked the County boss to distribute resources equally, as he complained that some constituencies were being segregated.
He asked the Senate to summon the governor to shed light on the corruption allegations.
“This year’s budget was implemented only 50 percent and we are less developed. We are approaching a new financial year and we shall return a lot of funds to the treasury. The governor is not doing his implementation job,” Waruru complained.
