Motown in Nairobi
13 October 2016, 19:11
Nairobi - Motown Records was a record label that was
at its prime in the 60’s, eventually producing a unique type of soul music
influenced by pop, which is today known as ‘Motown’.
Tracks like Baby Love by
the Supremes, Brick House by the Commodores, I’ll Be There by Jackson Five and
Heard it Through the Grapevine by the late great Marvin Gaye are perfect
examples of this style. In 2013, the multi-talented singer, actor and entertainer
June Gachui in partnership with Edward Parseen launched the Motown in Nairobi,
a show that celebrates this beautiful genre from the yester years.
It is a musical journey that takes you back
to the 60’s with exceptionally well executed renditions, costumes and wigs, the
horn section and a full band. It goes down on the 19th of October at
the Hub in Karen and will be brought to life by June Gachui, Edward Parseen,
David Hunter, Chris Bittok, the Different Faces Band, Denise Gordon, Neema
Ntalel, Victor Muli, Dela and Kendi Nkonge.
