Motion to impeach governor Gachagua filed

26 August 2016, 15:54 Joseph Njung’eh

Nyeri - The future of Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua as the county boss hangs in the balance after more than 34 Members of County Assembly (MCA) filed a motion of his impeachment.

The MCAs led by Kiganjo Ward Representative Baragu Mutahi accuse Gachagua of gross violation of the constitution on accounts of public finance management and Procurement and Disposal Act.

Baragu who moved the notice of motion accused Gachagua of blatant misusing funds as stated in the controller of budget report.

He said that the monthly exchequer report released by the controller of budget dated 11 July 2016 the exchequer showed that more than KES.846,702,900 could not be accounted for.

He said that as a result the county lost colossal amounts of money in other shoddy deals including procurement and splitting of the county tenders contrary to the Constitution.

“Due to the inefficiency of the county government under the leadership of Governor Gachagua the county used more than ten million for refurbishment of a private building for county offices this figure would have been enough for construction of offices on the county land,” said Baragu.

The leaders further allege that Gachagua is undermining their legislative role by failing to assent to the budget passed by the house and bills that were passed.

However, the governor has vowed to move to court to block the impeachment saying he has not violated the constitution and no adequate grounds to warrant his ouster
