Nairobi - Is Moses Kuria now a liability for the Jubilee Coalition?
Kuria's unending court cases over a number of hate speech claims have brought the spotlight firmly on the Jubilee Coalition and its leadership, posing the question.
Is the ruling coalition happy to aid lawlessness?
Kuria is no stranger to the courtroom and just earlier Tuesday, was back in court to answer to charges of hate speech in which his bail terms were changed for not adhering to the law.
" The fact is that the accused it seems does not take the law seriously," the trial judge stated of Kuria while lifting his bond to KES 10 million.
The court noted that previously the Gatundu south MP had disobeyed a court order in another incitement case, which had prohibited him from making statements that would amount to what he was being charged with.
"An accused person while on bail cannot repeat the same matter that is subject in court. That is according to the law on bail policy guidelines," it said.
But why is Kuria always in the wrong?
Is his conduct or misconduct a liability to the Jubilee Coalition?
Analysts feel that the continuing court cases might not be terminal but they are getting old and old as days go by.
" Kuria is a politician. He thrives off controversy and will revel in it. That he is in the news makes perfect sense for him and free publicity. He will love being in court as it shows he is relevant," Michael Njenga a political analyst says.
" The cases will not harm him unless he is barred from running for an elective seat and that is not going to happen any-time soon," he adds.
Kuria is not the only politician facing hate speech allegations, and with the government saying it will crack down on such utterances from politicians, it remains to be seen what action will be taken on the Gatundu South MP.
