Metamorphosis of office romance

14 July 2016, 08:55 Ruby Amondi

It all begins when you land an internship at your dream company. On day one during your orientation, you suddenly realize that you are extremely gorgeous, more than you imagine, because to get two reactions; extreme admiration from the men, and envy from the ladies.

It's so confusing to be suffocated with so much attention. They hover around your desk like flies. At the end of the day, you have to make a decision. The scramble is real - you are dropped home, called incessantly and praised by all. You feel bad though, for the hearts you will break after eventually picking who you would love to end up with, and indeed you make the decision. They have no choice but to settle for other interns.

Your new found love is so loving, and true. He doesn’t mind showing his affection in public - the office. Neither do the females mind showing their jealousy in public- the office. I mean, you did what none of them was able to; you got the boss in record time.

During the office talks, you get to hear about the former intern with no morals. You hardly remember her - you only met her when she was signing out when you joined the company. You were replacing her. She was however quickly forgotten though they were friendly enough to give her a rejection letter citing Unethical Code of Conduct.

Your relationship gets stronger and whatever happens in the Team Building becomes the talk of the office; the jealous females of course, you think. The relationship at this point is on another level. You are working for your future and his, plus you are working harder because he is watching. Your internship is closely coming to an end, and you have worked hard enough. You believe you will be retained. Fair enough. Then the boss has eyes for you, and he didn’t feel ashamed at the Team Building. Your stakes are higher, but you will have that talk when your contract ends.

The new applicants for the internship are interviewed. You feel some twinge of jealousy - one of them looks pretty.

The boss is busy, maybe shortlisting, or the auditors coming, or he is unwell he isn’t communicating! Shouldn’t he at least text? Your gut tells you, you see it too; He is IGNORING YOU. In fact, you never get the chance to discuss the permanent employment. The new intern is pretty…it had to be her.

She gets to hear about the former intern with no morals, she hardly remembers you, and she only saw you signing out when she was joining the company. You are quickly forgotten, but they are friendly enough to reject your employment application stating Unethical Code of Conduct.
