Nairobi - The award-winning and much celebrated gospel artist and icon, Mercy Masika last week on June 8 accepted to be the ambassador for Women Africa operations in Kenya. This was in a low key meeting attended by the WA Kenyan team and the Global President, Rev Mrs Ijeoma Emeribe from Nigeria at Hotel Intercontinental in Nairobi. She will be performing live at KICC early July 2016 in the official launch of the Woman Africa-Kenya chapter.
The much welcome mission of Women Africa is to help alleviate the poverty in Kenya. There is a population of 4 Million people in the city of Nairobi and over 40 million in the whole country, most of them living below the poverty line, just surviving on less than a dollar a day. Kenya’s capital has one of the largest slums in the continent, Kibera, second only to Soweto in South Africa.
Most city residents are slum dwellers. These are despicable places where children have no access to clean water, medication and latrines like Mathare Valley, Dandora dumping site and Kawangware.
The women bear the brunt of all the harsh conditions that come with poverty, lack and deprivation. Woman Africa core values and commitment is to love and serve those who are poor and marginalized especially women in Africa, and striving to enable lasting improvement in their lives, families and communities at large.

WA is headquartered in Nigeria where they have been able to empower families by paying for school tuition fees, uniform among other things. This has been welcomed wholeheartedly as a breath of fresh air. When children and schools thrive, it spurs economic growth in the entire community that breaks the cycle of poverty and transforms lives for generations to come.
Mercy Masika's duties shall include being the face of the organization in the country and spear heading the philanthropic projects across the region. These activities shall include starting a cooperative for women is small business, sinking of bore holes and building of schools in neglected, war-torn, arid and semi-arid areas like Eastern and North Eastern parts of the country.
Mercy is not just an artist but first and foremost a practicing born again Christian. She revealed that she got the burden for the under-privileged from her father who is a bishop and is involved in many humanitarian projects for the under privileged. She hopes to carry the flag of the noble organization to global notoriety.
