Men have different ways of saying they love you

02 August 2016, 18:23 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - Not all of them know about buying flowers and taking his wife to some fancy restaurant. Not many guys actually even have a clue of what dating is.

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and he was telling me how he ‘dated’ his girlfriend and they ended up in an oops moment. Apparently it is the woman’s role in a relationship to figure out birth control. Men are just meant to be there- in his opinion. So when she gets pregnant, it is her fault as the woman. Trust me, I did enough dead stares for all of us. Not because I am against the idea of taking care of myself but the fact that he had the guts to put it out there like that.

Their dates comprised of ‘come over to the house for a movie’ and he tells me, ‘How come she just got pregnant. Kwani what was she expecting?’

I say, ‘Uuuum to watch a movie.’ Giving the, ‘you said it was a movie so I am coming to watch a movie’ look.

Him: ‘Come on. Of course we are not going to watch a movie. Please. She should have prepared herself but I love my son so it does not matter anymore.’

I was laughing in my head but I was giving him the feminist look the entire time. How dare he says that it is only her and he has no consequence to share?

He had not planned to settle down early but as soon as she became the mother of his first child, she became the wife. Just like that.

Not a running around story or her trying to chase him or tracking him down and plead with him. Or parents having to come in other than to be informed. Just like that, he committed to her. He was complaining about her responsibilities but he showed his reliability by choosing to commit at a young age. Not worrying about how many women he has yet to go through or has yet to ‘try’.

See, men are different although I tend to like lumping them together.

He is not broke if that is what you are thinking and he is the provider, even for her. She stays at home until the child gets bigger.

She likes seeing him in a tie but he hates ties. So she makes him wear one when he leaves the house. Not to hurt her feelings, he wears it while coming out of the house and then he reaches the gate and when he is out of sight, removes it. He pulls it out while asking me how it looks. He had no idea how sweet a gesture that was while telling me the story because he was just telling me how his wife makes him wear ties, so she buys them.

Men have different ways of showing their love and affection for the women in their lives.

This one buying you roses all the time yet he is always causing drama in your life or the one as soon as you get pregnant, that is the one you have to start chasing. Appreciate yours’ way of doing something for you even though it does not come in the form most people like, appreciate, uphold or whatever.
