MCA wants to resign over threats, frustration by ex-wife

11 April 2016, 13:06 John Kioko

Kwale - A member of the Kwale County Assembly (MCA) is contemplating resignation over frustration and death threats he claims to have received from his divorced wife.

Tsimba Golini MCA, Swalehe Simba said his life is in danger and cannot thus cannot serve his people effectively.

“Suspicious people trailed me to my home using motorcycles on Wednesday midnight. They surveyed the home and left after missing my car around,” he said.

Speaking to journalists outside Kwale police station on Friday where he had gone to record a statement, Simba said that unknown people have been trailing him to his home.

“I feel my divorced wife is being used by critics targeting to weaken me politically ahead of 2017. We divorced last year over family issues but her family is frustrating me now,” he claimed.

The issue, he said, has affected his performance and his family is advising him to resign.

Simba said that it would be better for him to stay out of politics and be safe than stay in office and be unsafe.

“We are always in police station or meetings solving family issues. I feel am wasting a lot of time on the same issue instead of serving my people,” he added.

“I have reported the matter to police for them to investigate,” he noted, adding that he is ready to cater for the upkeep of his child as required by the law.

“She has gone to children's court for me to pay KES 80 000 and that is nothing to me what I want is peace,” he added.

In a quick rejoinder, his divorced wife who was also at Kwale police station Mariam Mwarachuma dismissed claims of threatening him saying he is trying to evade a child upkeep case coming up for hearing on April 10, 2016.

“I have never threatened him but I know he is doing all this because the court order has disturbed him,” she said.

Mariam said that she needed KES 80 000 upkeep for the child monthly because the MCA has not been providing for them since they divorced last year.

“There is no one using me to finish the MCA politically as he has claimed. In fact, he is the one who brought this issues to police. I am ready to settle the issue peacefully. I didn’t take the children upkeep issue to court to finish him but to ensure my child is taken care of by his father,” she added.
