MCA collapses, dies immediately after addressing the public

14 December 2015, 10:58 Joseph Njung'eh

Nairobi - Shock and grief has gripped Laikipia after County Assembly Majority Leader, Ephraim Wachira alias Kamakia collapsed and died immediately after addressing residents at Nanyuki stadium during Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Wachira sat down after his speech but after two minutes he collapsed and was rushed to Nanyuki Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Sources said he died out of heart attack.

Wachira, who in his last speech looked very angry with how county leaders were relating with the national Government on issues of development in the county, urged all leaders to work together for purposes of integration and development.

He noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta had remembered Laikipia by appointing Mwangi Kiunjuri as a Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning.

Wachira had also urged the County Government to improve infrastructure in the area and fast-track construction of the dilapidated Nanyuki-Rumuruti road.“It’s true one of our members has left us. I am on my way from Nyahururu because we are meeting at Bunge to make a formal announcement,” Speaker Patrick Mariru said.
