MCA charged with receiving KES 500,000 brie to resolve land dispute

14 December 2015, 18:57 Ken Wekesa

Mombasa - A Mombasa county MCA has been charged at the Mombasa law courts for soliciting a bribe of KES 500,000 to resolve a land dispute in Kisauni area.

Shanzu MCA Maimuna Salim denied all the 4 charges leveled against her before senior principal magistrate Richard Odenyo.

It was alleged that on July 16 2015 in Kisauni Sub County within Mombasa, being a state officer, she received a benefit of KES 500,000 from Mrs Morin Leah Oketch as an inducement to resolve a land dispute matter with the county government regarding a parcel of land for allegation of encroaching.

On the second count she was jointly charged with Christopher Karisa who is alleged to be her agent to have received a sum of KES 500,000.

She faced a third count in which she was jointly charged with Karisa that without lawful excuse abstracted and threatened EACC investigators namely Alfred Mwachagha from undertaking their mandate and inciting members of the public to burn EACC vehicles while the same officers were investigating the matter.

State prosecutor Simon Waithaka made an application to have warrants of arrest issued against Karisa after he failed to appear before the court for plea.

Principal Magistrate Odenyo issued the warrant of arrest against Karisa.

Maimuna was released of a bond of KES 300,000 the case will be mentioned on February 15 2015.
