Mandera - A guard was shot dead Monday night during a shootout between police guarding Mandera Governor, Ali Roba’s home and buibui-clad gunmen.
The incident took place in Mandera town as the police officers stopped to help the attackers, thinking they were women in distress.
It was then that the gunmen in disguise of women opened fire, leading to a heavy gun fight.
The night guard was manning a nearby premise when a stray bullet from the shootout caught him in the buttocks. He bled to death but the gunmen managed to escape.
It is suspected that the gunmen are part of the Al Shabaab militia group and were planning an attack when they encountered the Governor’s security detail.
