02 March 2016, 14:59 Godfrey Olukya

Kampala - A man who has allegedly been stealing expensive vehicles from Kenya and later selling them into Uganda has been arrested with a stolen car.

The car, which he drove through the Malaba border post Uganda was a brand new Land Cruiser Prado.

Police said they have been hunting for him for over a year but in vain.

He has been identified by police as Gerald Elungat, a resident of Amoni B cell in Malaba town.

The officer in charge of Malaba police station, Rashid Kamayo said: ''The car was intercepted by our patrol police while heading towards Tororo town. On realizing that it was Elungat driving, we arrested him and took him to the police station.''

It was established that he had stolen it from Kenya.

He said Elungat was facing other related charges.

''He has been arrested several times with stolen Kenyan vehicles but always escapes from custody,'' said Kamayo.

He said they have handed over the vehicle to Uganda Revenue Authority for further investigations.
