Man sodomises daughter to reinforce punishment

03 February 2016, 10:00 Steve Njuguna

Nyahururu - A middle-aged man was Tuesday arraigned in a Nyahururu court for defiling and sodomising her daughter after beating her up.

Francis Mwangi admitted to assault charges facing him and his wife Mercy Waithera, but denied four counts of sexual assault.

The couple was sentenced to one year imprisonment each at Nyahururu G.K prison.

Resident magistrate Willy Cheruiyot heard that on diverse dates between January 8 and 29 this year at Sironi location, Laikipia County, the couple decided to beat up the class five pupil for failing to attend school.

Mwangi would later sexually assault the girl as a way of reinforcing the punishment.

Waithera, who amused the court when she said the girl was Mwangi's step-daughter, admitted to the assault charges saying: “I held her he caned her with a pipe for truancy.”

The court heard that the girl later disclosed the ordeal to a relative who took her at Ol Jabet health Centre before recording the statement at Marmanet police post.

The court was told that the girl had been treated with multiple injuries and was recuperating at a relative’s home.

The defilement charges facing Mwangi will be heard on April 21 with a mention on February 11 this year.
