Man rapes grandmother, leaves her in coma

09 November 2015, 21:32 Godfrey Olukya

Kampaa - Residents of Mpumude village in the eastern Uganda district of Mpumude were shocked to find one of their fellow villagers Scovia Nafula in a coma after reportedly being raped by her grandson.

They learnt about her being in a coma from her 7 year old grandson, Patrick Bwire who called them for help.

15 year old Nelson Wanjala reportedly raped his grandmother at around 7.30 pm and left her in the coma.

According to Bwire, Wanjala who seemed to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs, first told the grandmother that she has always been calling him husband for the last 10 years but he has never slept with her.

" He grabbed my grandmother and raped her after threatening me that he would kill me if I made any alarm," said Bwire.

After the act the old woman fainted while Wanjala went to his bedroom to sleep.

On seeing his grandmother was non- responsive, Bwire alerted neighbours who rushed her to hospital. They then apprehended Wanjala whom they found deep asleep and took him to the police.

Even as he was being taken to police, Wanjala pleaded innocence accusing his grandmother of enticing him by referring to him as her husband.

" Wanjala has recently started started taking a local gin called ''nguli '' and abusing drugs," a neighbour noted.
