Nyahururu - A 37-year-old man shocked residents of Kasuku in Nyandarua County after he jumped into a 47-foot borehole while holding a cross he had plucked off his late father’s grave.
Karanja Kuria who works as a cobbler at Kasuku trading centre in Ol Jorok constituency is said to have been drunk when he committed suicide on Wednesday afternoon.
Area OCPD, Joseph Cheruiyot told News24 this morning that the man is reported to have had a quarrel with his wife, before heading to his father’s grave where he plucked the cross and then jumped into the borehole.
“We have opened an inquiry into the matter as his body awaits postmortem at Ol kalau’s JM Memorial Hospital,” added the police boss.
Rurii Chief, Peter Kiragu who reported the incident, said the man had been cautioned against drinking by his late father before he died recently.
“He looked disturbed by his father’s warning shortly before he committed suicide,” said Kiragu.
