Nyeri - A man in Nyeri has been slapped with six months imprisonment after he was found guilty of using offensive words against his mother.
Thomas Njoroge allegedly called his mother Margaret Wangechi a prostitute and potato thief following a domestic row over their family land.
He was condemned to the jail term by resident magistrate Ruth Kefa who said though the accused was remorseful and had prayed for forgiveness, the offence was serious.
The court heard that he committed the offence in November last year at Kabage village.
According to the charge sheet, Njoroge destroyed his mother’s crops while installing irrigation water pipes.

His mother, who was cultivating her garden, warned him but Njoroge started hurling insults at her and even came short of beating her, court heard.
In his sworn defense, Njoroge told the court that the matter was to be settled out of court and that his mother had demanded KES 20,000.
He accused his mother of extortion as she threatened him with arrest if he did not provide the cash.
The court however observed that the witnesses who gave evidence in the case were consistent and credible.
Njoroge was re-arrested last week following a court order after failing to show up in court.
He was given 14 days to appeal the judgement.
