Man in court for killing KDF soldier who survived El-Adde attack

Kabarnet - Proceedings at Kabarnet Law courts were Tuesday interrupted for more than 30 minutes when curious residents flocked the court precincts to have a glimpse of a man suspected to have killed a Kenya Defence Force (KDF) soldier at Kaprogonya estate in Kabarnet town.
The suspect, Solomon Kipkurui was arrested by members of public in connection with the killing of Corporal Stanley Kipkolomin Chepkwony on January 19, this year.
Chepkwony was a survivor of the El Adde attack by Al Shabaab militants that left over 200 KDF soldiers dead.

However, Kipkurui could not take plea as the prosecution asked the court to detain him for 10 days in order to complete investigations.
The suspect, who hails from Kipkaech village in Kabarnet division is alleged to have escaped after the killing, leaving the villagers in fear till his arrest.
Resident Magistrate Emily Kigen in her ruling said she had read the affidavit presented by Investigating Officer Isaac Njenga and found that it was necessary to grant him 10 days to detain the suspect at Kabarnet police station to allow for completion of the investigation.
The suspect will be brought back to court on April 5 when he is expected to take plea.
