Nairobi - A man died and three thugs were shot dead by Police as the war against gangs continued in Nairobi.

The three thugs died in incidences in Zimmerman estate and Majengo Slums in the city Wednesday morning.

The thugs in Majengo were intercepted by Police but in trying to escape, ended up being shot by officers who had been alerted by members of the Public.

The two thugs were accosting residents along the roads when the incidences took place.

The one in Zimmerman was shot dead by Police after he was involved in a violent robbery where he snatched handbags from two women after threatening to stab them.

On escaping, he was cornered by Police and gunned down.

The incident took place just a few hours after a thug was lynched by area residents for allegedly mugging members of the public.

" These are petty thugs who are causing disharmony to residents. We are not going to condone them," Nairobi Police boss Japheth Koome told News24 on phone.

The man who died was attacked by thugs after they raided a shop in Riruta area. He is said to have been shot after refusing to cooperate with the thugs who escaped after the incident.

" We offer our condolences to the respective families during this tough time and urge members of the public to continue being vigilant in prevention of these crimes," he added.

Koome said that a special task force has been formed to stop the increasing cases of muggings and other petty crimes in the city.
