Nairobi - A 20 year old boy on Monday morning was rescued by divers at the Likoni ferry channel after he tried to kill himself.
The young man whom Police at Likoni described as calm and who did not show any signs of confusion while aboard the MV- Nyayo Ferry from the Likoni mainland South heading to Mombasa Island, threw himself into the Indian ocean at the middle of the Likoni ferry channel.
Confirming the early Monday morning incident, Likoni Police Boss Willy Simba said that the incident shocked passengers who yelled for help from divers who were at the sea shore at the time of the incident.
“Luckily, one of the divers was inside the MV- Nyayo crossing to the other side of Mombasa island who immediately jumped inside the Indian ocean to rescue the young man, a mission that was successful” Simba added.
The boy was saved without any injuries and was helped to vomit a lot of water he drunk while attempting to take away his own life.
The boy is detained at the Likoni police station amid investigations as Police vow to take him to court on Tuesday for going against the laws of the country.
“We are going to charge him for attempting to take away his own life it is against the law” noted Simba.
Cases of people trying to kill themselves at the Likoni ferry channel by throwing themselves in to the Indian ocean have been reported to be on the increase in the recent past.
