Nairobi- A 38-year-old man narrowly escaped death after he was attacked by members of the public for allegedly raping a 105-year-old woman in Kangaru village, Kirinyaga County.
He was rescued by police officers as the public was threatening to lynch him.
The man, who was going home from a local drinking den, allegedly grabbed the woman in her house and took her to a nearby maize plantation before raping her at around 2pm.
Witnesses said they heard fading screams coming from the maize plantations and when they responded, they found the man in the act, with the woman reeling on the ground in pain.
They said when the drunken man saw them, he dressed up immediately and ran for his dear life.
They alerted nearby bodaboda operators who cornered him beating him mercilessly and when they were about to lynch him using petrol, police arrived and rescued him.
“The man was wearing two pairs of trousers and a short when he was being chased, he began removing one after the other to hide his face,” said an eye witness.
They said the woman was unable to walk and was helped by the police officers who took her to Embu Level 5 Hospital for treatment.
