Man arrested for impersonating Kenya Power General Manager for HR

31 May 2016, 12:40 Joseph Njung'eh

Nyeri - Nyeri police have arrested a middle-aged man for forging the identity of Kenya Power General Manager in charge of Human Resources and Administration to falsely offer unsuspecting persons employment.

The suspect identified as Curtis Kanyingi was arrested and booked at Nyeri Police Station awaiting court trial.

“The person had assumed the identity of Kenya Power’s General Manager for Human Resources and Administration, Abubakar Swaleh and offering employment to one Titus Gitimu. He was arrested for the offence of conning, obtaining money by false pretense, forgery and handling forged documents,” said Kenya Power’s Acting Security Services Manager, Major (Rtd.) Geoffrey Kigen.

According to the forged employment letter dated May 3, 2016, Gitimu was deceived that his application for employment at Kenya Power had been approved and that he had secured a job as a driver.

The Security manager said the company has been faced with various incidences where criminals dupe members of the public that they are company officials to con the victims.

“The company urges the public to make any payments due to Kenya Power at any of its offices countrywide or selected banks and ensure that they obtain a receipt for any cash transaction to avoid being victims of fraud,” said Kigen.
