Majority of Nairobi thugs aged 18-25

Nairobi - Most thugs in Nairobi are aged between 18 and 25 years, Police say.
Nairobi Police boss Japheth Koome says that most of the thugs either arrested or killed by Police are able bodied young men and women who can make an honest living without resorting to crime.
He says that the increasing cases of crime will end and has warned youth to leave crime or face the full force of the law.
" It is sad to see that most of the thugs are very young boys who can create their own bright futures in a decent and open manner," he told News24.
" They are very young boys and it is sad to see them take up arms but as Police we will not hesitate to reign in on them to ensure safety of majority of city residents," he added.
Koome stated that incidences of gun related crime were increasing but reiterated that in overall terms, crime in the Capital had reduced.
" Gun crime has increased and we hear more and more incidences of shootings but overall crime in the city has reduced and I am proud to say so," he added.
Koome stated that the killing of Police officers by thugs would attract a similar punishment by Police officers.
" We will not spare them. Nairobi cannot be held ransom by a few people. This city will overcome crime," he added.
Koome stated that the killing in Kahawa West of a senior Police officer would be avenged with the highest level of force. AP office Michael Ziki was shot at 17 times by gun wielding youth whilst heading home Tuesday night.
