Luyha leaders plot to unseat Raila

Nairobi - Luhya leaders are looking to unseat CORD leader Raila Odinga, it has emerged.
The group of senior Luhya leaders wants the CORD leader to step aside for one of them and help lead the opposition to victory come the 2017 elections.
The belief is that if Raila leads the opposition, he will lose but if he lets a different leader do so, the chances of winning the polls is much higher.
The group of leaders is made up of Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula, Amani Congress' Musalia Mudavadi and Cyrus Jirongo.
The caucus is led by COTU Secretary Francis Atwoli.
" The reality is that Raila faces a tough task to win the elections. If the Luhya people can be united and Raila backs one of the leaders then the chances of winning the polls is higher," a source privy to the plans told News24.
Atwoli is understood to be the one who is arranging the talks with Raila, the source adds.
Raila is under pressure to quit his aim to be President and push someone else forward to help raise chances of the CORD team as well as the opposition winning the polls.
