Nairobi - The Luo council of elders have slammed judiciary for promoting incest.
Last week judge James Makau ruled that sex between first cousins is legal in Kenya.
"It's wrong for people with same blood to get involved in sex or marriage. It's against how cultural practice and every Luo know the repercussions," said the council chairman mzee Opiyo Otondi.
"We must remain true to our culture and defend," he added.
The elders warned the community against embracing such behaviours as they will destroy the moral fabric that hold them together.
"Your cousin is your sister. How will your father call his brother if you marry her daughter?," wondered mzee Otondi.
Traditionally close family marriages is a taboo in the community. And even in a situation where one later realised he had a married a distant relative, they had to put a cooking pot at of hurt.
