Lucy Kibaki’s funeral service venue changed after floods

Nairobi - The venue of Former First Lady Lucy Kibaki’s funeral service has been changed from Othaya Stadium to Othaya Approved grounds after the previous was flooded following heavy rains.
Tents will be set up for guests and a podium for dignitaries will also be mounted on the grounds, according to Nyeri County Security Committee chairperson, Police Commander Eunice Kihiko.
Kihiko said security has been beefed up within the County adding that 20,000 mourners are expected at the funeral service scheduled Saturday.
She said the grounds will be used for funeral service only while Othaya Boys Secondary School field will be used as parking for dignitaries and landing grounds for helicopters.
Mama Lucy will later be laid to rest at her husband’s, former President Mwai Kibaki’s, home in Kanyange village which will be a private function.
The regional Coordinator, Naftali Mungathia has also announced that four buses will be provided to ferry Nyeri residents who wish to attend the requiem Mass for Mama Lucy that is scheduled for Wednesday at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi.
He added that three condolence books have been provided one at Mama Lucy’s backyard in Mukurweini, another in Othaya and the other one at Nyeri Huduma Centre.
