Lorry driver, turn-boy jailed for human trafficking
22 March 2016, 15:42
Isiolo - A lorry driver and his turn-boy have been each slapped with three-months imprisonment for human trafficking.
Bichal Mohammed and Dahir Hassan pleaded guilty to the charge before Isiolo Senior Resident Magistrate Boaz Ombewa.
The court however gave them an alternative of paying a fine of KES 30 000 to avoid imprisonment.
They were accused of ferrying 18 Ethiopia migrants in a Mitsubishi lorry along the Marsabit-Isiolo highway on March 18, 2016 at around 1.am.
The duo pleaded with court for leniency.
In his ruling, the magistrate said that he had considered the mitigation by the accused but the offence was serious.
