Local celebrity 'bewitched' by fellow musicians

27 January 2016, 15:00 Godfrey Olukya

Kampala - One of the most popular Ugandan musicians, Messach Ssemakula is reportedly bedridden after being attacked by a strange disease.

On Tuesday, rumours circulated that he had died but was later disapproved after some journalists called him to verify the information.

In the past few days, rumours circulated in Kampala and Uganda at large that Ssemakula was bewitched by his fellow musicians.

But one of his close friends, John Male said that he has been diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes.

''He has been battling the two ailments for sometime although this is the first time they sent him to bed,'' said Male.

The social media has been awash with stories about his ill health and how his fellow musicians have bewitched him.

His fellow singer, Maureen Nantume was the first to break the news when she posted: “Ssemakula is very sick. Am afraid I had to inform you my dear friends. Put your fingers crossed but we seriously need your prayers for my mentor, father and everything I love most in the music sector because he made me what I am today. Golden papa Messach Ssemakula is seriously ill and on bed rest at his home in Buziga.”

One of his fans, Nelson Muganga said: ''It is unfortunate that Ssemakula is being bewitched by fellow musicians because he has proved to be better than them.''

Ssemakula sings in the Golden Band which is one of the leading bands in the country.

His most popular Gospel song, 'Tumutendereze' (Let's praise Him) was on top of the music charts for several months in 2010.
