Listen to the opposition, Kibaki tells Uhuru

13 November 2015, 16:58 Joseph Njung'eh

Nairobi - The immediate former head of state Mwai Kibaki has (Friday) asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Jubilee government to give attention to concerns raised by the opposition CORD coalition.

Kibaki said people should learn the art of listening to each other.

Speaking at Gatugi PCEA church in Othaya during the burial of area MP Mary Wambui’s sister, Ann Wakarima Wambugu, Kibaki said even critics have words of advice.

“There are people who hate you or you do not like them. Just listen to them when they are speaking to you. They might say a word that could help you,” said Kibaki in Kikuyu.

He further asked Kenyans to pray for national leaders who are not serving the nation as expected.

“We must commit ourselves to God and ask him to help us and listen to our prayers. We must seek his intervention. But we have to trust him,” said Kibaki.

The funeral service was attended by Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe, Juja MP Francis Munyua, Nyeri town MP Esther Murugi, former Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo and suspended Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau.

Kibaki was ostensibly responding to the Juja MP who had asked him to advice President Uhuru Kenyatta on how he dealt with the opposition when he was in power and in politics.

“The former President had a gift of being silent and everything was smooth in his government. We shall now be consulting him for advice,” said Munyua.
