Life imprisonment for a man who defiled 6 year-old girl

18 April 2016, 13:52 Geoffrey Kimagut

Narok -  A 45 year old man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he was found guilty of defiling a six year old girl in Ntulele area, Narok East Constituency.

Sonjoi Ole Sordo, who had pleaded not guilty of the offense before Narok Senior Resident Magistrate Allan Sitati, was found guilty after seven witnesses gave their testimonies in court.

The court heard that on diverse dates of January 1, 2016 and February 4, 2016, Sordo  carried the minor on his back in his house where he laid her on his bed before defiling her several times.

The minor told the court that the culprit was a well known person to her as he lived next to their house.

She confessed that after committing the act, Sordo who is a tout at Ntulele Bus Stage, gave her Sh10 to buy snacks and warned her never to tell her parents or anyone.

A neigbour named Ms Melta Wamalwa noticed the girl’s weird behavior of going to Sordo’s house and remaining there for some time.
She reported to her teacher and together they examined the girl only to find wounds in her private part.

The neighbour reported to the girl’s parents what had been happening who later took her to Narok County Referral Hospital for assessment and treatment.

A medical examination from the hospital proved that the girl had been defiled severally as her hymen was broken and had internal injuries in her privates.

In his mitigation, the culprit said he did not commit the indecent act and would appeal the sentence.

On his part, the state council prosecutor Simon Ihaji said the accused should be given a stern punishment as records shows that he had been sentenced to serve five years imprisonment by a Naivasha court.

Ihaji said a stern punishment will be a warning to others with the same intentions.

While handing the life imprisonment, the magistrate said the convict is a dangerous sexual offender for he repeatedly enticed an innocent minor of six years.

“The only sentence provided for defilement of a girl aged 11 years and below is life Imprisonment,” he said.

The magistrate however reminded the accused of his right to appeal in 14 days if not satisfied.
