Kwale leaders allied to ODM pick candidate to succeed governor Salim Mvurya who joined Jubilee

08 September 2016, 20:33

Nairobi - The opposition coalition CORD has said that they have a governor in waiting to replace incumbent Salim Mvurya who has indicated joining Jubilee coalition ahead of 2017.

Speaking at the newly opened ODM office in Diani-Kwale on Thursday ODM officials said that they have already filled the gap adding that they are only waiting to confirm the new governor for the county although they did not disclose  the candidate.

Msambweni ODM Chairman Abdallaha Mambo dared Mvurya to resign and seek fresh mandate from electorates after official launching of Jubilee party in Nairobi on Saturday.

“Once he resign we will ask IEBC to conduct election in Kwale and show him that Kwale is still ODM zone,” he said.

Sheikh Hamisi Banda, ODM advisor Msambweni branch said they have already identified someone who will replace Mvurya adding that, “we are only waiting for 2017 general election to confirm him”.

“We have consulted widely among professionals, youths, and women, council of imams and preachers of Kenya and got the best person who can steer this county to another level of development,” he said.

Abdallah Mambo described Mvurya as a coward who feared competition within the party and decided to leave.

“We are planning for his burial although he was our lovely son,” he added.

He said the decision about who will succeed Mvurya will be finally arrived at after consulting all professionals, pastors, youths, women, Muslims in Matuga, Msambweni, LungaLunga and Kinango.

“We are telling Mvurya to go in peace to Jubilee but we are sure he will be accommodated in the toilet and not sitting room or bedroom because there are issues inside the jubilee coalition,” he added.

The ODM leaders threatened that any member who will be found attending Jubilee party launch in Nairobi tomorrow Saturday will automatic have defected.

“We know Mvurya has joined Jubilee to get shares of Eurobond, NYS money and others so that he can do campaign with a chopper in 2017,” he claimed.

He added that party leader Raila Odinga visit in Kwale on 23 September will see Mvurya issues discussion top on the agendas.

“We dint know he was our enemy sleeping with us. We assure him that his teachers will take over from him. We cannot allow him back,” he added.

Sheikh Hamisi Banda said that Governor Salim Mvurya indicated leaving CORD long time ago after rejecting grass roots nomination, Okoa Kenya initiative, Malindi by-election and IEBC demonstration among other things.

Women leader Fatuma Juma said that youths and women are still supporting ODM in Kwale County adding that they will not follow greedy leaders joining Jubilee which has seen youths disappearing and other killed in broad day light.

Governor Salim Mvurya has asked locals in Kwale to support jubilee in 2017.
