Nairobi - Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has moved to gazette new procedures governing the operation of transit sheds (Container Freight Stations) in line with the provisions of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004 and East African Customs Management Regulations.
As part of the new regulations, all Transit Cargo passing through Kenya will also be placed on a round the clock surveillance using electronic cargo tracking systems as part of the RCTG Scheme.
KRA Commissioner General, John Njiraini said the procedures and regulations would enhance revenue collection and beef up border security.
“At KRA, we have commenced the implementation of a number of revenue enhancement programmes particularly on the customs and border control front,” Njiraini said.
He said the measures would provide a sound platform to refocus Customs and Border Control operations to address security and revenue collection.
The Authority, Njiraini assured, is confident that the ongoing revenue enhancement measures, including the implementation of technology systems such as iTax for Domestic Taxes and the envisaged Customs iCMS system, shall greatly enhance revenue mobilization besides helping tackle staff integrity challenges.
