Khalwale backs Kalonzo for presidency

23 February 2016, 12:56 William Korir

Nairobi - Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale backs Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's claim for the presidency in 2017.

Khalwale says that it is within Kalonzo's right to want to battle for the CORD ticket for the 2017 elections and that he is a viable candidate.

The Kakamega Senator says that the move by Kalonzo also shows that CORD is a democratic space as compared to the Jubilee Coalition.

The Wiper Party leader has openly declared his intentions to vie for the topmost seat in the country, which at the moment is sought after and expected to be won by current coalition leader Raila Odinga.

" Kalonzo is welcome to declare his intentions. He is a leader that has shown in the past that he can deliver to Kenyans and has served the country many years. It is good to know he wants to lead the country," Khalwale told News24.

He added that there is also the need to ensure viable competition as compared to what the Jubilee Coalition is offering.

" Democracy dictates that there is competition for senior positions and as a coalition we have shown so, as compared to the Jubilee Coalition," he added.

It is expected that Raila, Kalonzo and FORD Kenya leader Moses Wetangula will battle for the lead role of representing the party in the 2017 polls to compete with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
