Kericho residents threatened with eviction for voting KANU

08 March 2016, 19:58 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Some Kericho residents were threatened with eviction if they voted for KANU in the just ended by election, it has emerged.

Most who spoke to News24 stated that they were told that if they voted for KANU candidate Paul Sang, it would be known and that they would face serious problems.

" We were told that we would face serious problems if we voted for KANU," a resident who asked to be refereed to his second name Koech said.

He said that he was told the same after attending a KANU rally.

Another said that he was told by neighbours that there was a way in which persons who voted for KANU would be found and punished for embarrassing DP William Ruto.

" There were rumours and stories. I was told by my neighbours," Mercy, who also asked to be called by her first name for fear of victimization told News24.

Jubilee candidate Aaron Cheruiyot won the election by a 60% majority.

KANU Secretary General Nick Salat stated that there had been several electoral malpractices, including bribery, stealing and threatening of voters.

" The elections were unnaceptable. We have to look for a way past the IEBC," he said.

KANU has said it will release a dossier of the issues that affected the Kericho polls Wednesday.
