The deceased jumped into the river swimming back towards Ethiopia to ‘claim’ his newly found love before drowning.
According to eyewitnesses, Mwai had a row with Ethiopian security forces.
The officers barred his lover of Ethiopian origin from crossing the border to Kenya as Ethiopians do not allow crossing of the border after 6p.m.
His body was recovered in the river in Dhollo in Somalia and taken to Mandera county referral hospital mortuary waiting to be transported for burial.
There is no bridge between Kenya and Ethiopia forcing people to use the poorly made boats.
