Kenya Power on the spot in the wake of national blackout

Nairobi - The Kenya Power Company is under pressure from Kenyans in the face of continued blackouts in Nairobi, Mombasa and other parts of the country.
Kenyans were outraged Thursday after a series of blackouts left businesses in the dark and critical operations half functioning.
Blackouts were reported several times in the day in many parts of the city including Westlands, the CBD, Nairobi West, Mombasa Road, Eastlands as well as Karen, Kileleshwa, Ongata Rongai and Kiserian.
Kenya Power later on in the day released a statement saying that it was aware of the problems.

“We are experiencing a partial outage affecting Nairobi, Mombasa and Mt. Kenya regions. Restoration is under way,” Kenya Power said in a statement.
With Kenyans in the dark, The Consumers Federation of Kenya COFEK was quick to release a statement on the matter, terming the continued blackouts a hindrance to the economy and asking for the sacking of MD Ben Chumo.
“COFEK offices, too, suffer second Kenya Power blackout today. Wish H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto can act fast on the failed MD Dr Ben Chumo,” they said.
Kenyans went on the rampage on social media using the Twitter hash-tag #SackBenChumonow to relay their frustrations.
