KEMRI director sent on compulsory leave for alleged malpractices

Nairobi - The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Board of Management has sent the Director, Prof. Solomon Mpoke on compulsory leave with immediate effect to allow for investigations related to alleged possible malpractices in the Institute.
In a special board meeting held on December 18, the Board directed that Dr. Gerald Mwadori Mkoji, the Assistant Director Resource Development and Management takes over in acting capacity.
Also currently on compulsory leave alongside the KEMRI director is his deputy director in charge of finance and administration and the assistant director in charge of human resource.
In a press statement sent to the press Monday, the board said: "The Board wishes to assure all Kenyans, partners and collaborators that these are administrative changes taken to ensure that KEMRI remains a strategic asset of national importance and meets its mandate of carrying out human health research and will not impede its daily tasks."
