KDF soldier killed in Somalia buried in Kieni

26 February 2016, 11:04 Joseph Njung'eh

Nairobi - One of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers killed in El Adde military base in Somalia has been buried in Gakawa village, Kieni East sub-County, Nyeri.

Martin Murage Kinyua, 31, was laid to rest at his father’s home in a sorrow event as he was also given a 21-gun salute by fellow soldiers.

He had been deployed in Somalia for a peace keeping mission late last year before meeting his death on January 15, this year after their base was attacked by Alshabaab militants.

He had worked in the Kenyan army in the 9th battalion for six years.

Lieutenant Major Muthee who spoke on behalf of the KDF said the fallen soldier died in search of peace for Kenya and Africa.

“Murage was enlisted in KDF on April 27, 2009 as a senior private soldier after vigorous training. He died out of his courage, honest and industrious in the force. He was dedicated on his job,” said Major Muthee.

Muthee added that Murage had been awarded a constitutional medal in year 2010 due to his humility and hard work.

“His life was not in faint. His death has left an indelible mark in the force. Kinyua has paid the ultimate price of searching peace,” he stated.

Kinyua is survived by his wife and two children.

The funeral was led by Father Stephen Mbugua, a Chaplain in KDF who asked Kenyans to pray for the soldiers while they are in their peace keeping missions.

“The KDF should not leave Somalia until that country stabilizes. Pray for our soldiers to have more courage and energy,” said the man of God.
