Jubilee working hard to portray ODM as a Luo outfit, says party official

27 June 2016, 11:44 Jackson Okata

Nairobi - The Orange Democratic Movement party (ODM) is now accusing the Jubilee coalition of working day and night to portray ODM as a Luo outfit ahead of the 2017 general elections.

ODM Nakuru County chairman, Peter Ole Osono said that Jubilee has initiated a plan of buying ODM members of Parliament from Western, Coast, Kisii and north eastern regions within the aim of leaving the party with only members from the Luo Nyanza region.

Osono said that Jubilee has laid down a well crafted strategy which will see all ODM members of parliament and senators from the said regions defect to jubilee before next year’s polls.

Speaking Sunday in Naivasha town, Osono said that the ruling coalition has appointed political proxies and brokers to lure the targeted members into the Jubilee party.

“We know that Jubilee has a well crafted strategy to drive members out of ODM en masse before the 2017 general polls with the aim of weakening the party and portraying it as a tribal outfit for the Luo community,” said Osono.

“They have set aside billions of shillings to effect their strategy and targeted members are being promised heaven.

“They have promised to fund their campaigns fully and give them direct nominations if they defect to the Jubilee party,” he said.

Osono added that each MP who agrees to defect from ODM is being given a sum of KES 0.5 billion.

Recently, reports have emerged accusing deputy President William Ruto of buying Budalangi MP and ODM secretary general, Ababu Namwamba from ODM.

Ruto has however denied the allegations.
