Jubilee Governor denies hiring youths to disrupt Raila's meeting

15 June 2016, 16:09 Jackson Okata

Nakuru - Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has denied allegations that he led a team of members of parliament who hired goons to disrupt CORD leader Raila Odinga’s meeting in Nakuru last Saturday.

Mbugua said that he never hired and paid youths to disrupt Odinga’s meeting as reported by a section of the media.

He said that he was only against anti-IEBC protests by CORD supporters in the county.

Mbugua added that he was not opposed to Raila holding meetings in Nakuru but instated that he will not allow him to hold ‘tribal’ meetings in his county

“I never hired anyone and neither did I pay anyone to disrupt Raila’s meeting. The youth who protested last Saturday were not hired by anybody but were simply passing across a message on behalf of the majority of Nakuru people who are against violence and destruction of property,” said Mbugua.

“I said it and will repeat that we will not allow leaders to hold tribal meetings in the county. If anyone wants to hold a meeting here then let him meet all the communities not just one community,” he said.

He added that Nakuru has in the past suffered from tribal and ethnic hatred and he will not allow that to happen again.

“The peace we are enjoying in Nakuru was sought for a very long time and we will not allow the peace to fade away through the actions of politicians,” he said.

However, the ODM party wants Governor Mbugua arrested for interfering with a peaceful meeting.

Through its Nakuru chairman Peter ole Sono, the party wants the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko to take action against Mbugua for Saturday's chaos.
