Jomo Kenyatta Nakuru campus students demonstrate

30 March 2016, 07:34 Wilshare

Nakuru - Learning was paralyzed on Tuesday at Jomo Kenyatta Agriculture town campus in Nakuru after students demonstrated over being neglected by the institution management.

Trouble begun in the morning after students from Engineer department stormed out of class sighting some lectures have not been attending lessons.

Interviewed students said they have been paying hefty schools fees but on time but the quality of education offered is not the best.

The students said the campus laboratory lacks basic operators which has made learning impossible for students undertaking Information Technology.

“The institution management of this campus has really neglected students in the Engineering department because the laboratory does not have the needed equipment for the day to day learning,” said one of the students who requested anonymity.

The student said that they have been trying to raise the issue with director of the campus but nothing has happened.

He said that some of the students Sh230, 000 per year but still they have not been getting good quality education like the rest of the students at the main campus in Nairobi.

“We have been paying our school fees but still the kind of education we are getting from this campus is not the best,” he said.

However, the ongoing demonstration was disrupted by police officers from central police station after they fired tear gas to them.

By the time of going to newsroom, the media could not get a comment from the director of the campus as he was in a locked door meeting with the officials of student’s representatives.
