Isiolo governor defends CS Wario over Rio fiasco

Isiolo - Isiolo County Governor Godana Doyo has defended Sports and Culture Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario over reports that he mismanaged Kenya’s Olympic team in Rio Brazil.
Doyo said the CS should not to be blamed saying the team’s management was a role of National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK).
He urged NOCK to take responsibility of the failures as he supported prosecution of the officials.
The governor said Wario has been effective in supporting youth programmes and development of sports in the country and needs public support.
“It is ironical that some of the legislators who are now calling for Wario’s resignation were once at the helm of the Sports Ministry and are, therefore, aware of the numerous challenges,” noted Doyo.
Wario has been under pressure from a section of leaders to resign after details emerged on how millions of money was spent yet the athletes representing the country suffered embarrassment such as delayed or missing flight tickets.
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba recently asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Wario over the gross mismanagement of the Kenyan team
