IEBC to oversee jubilee party 2017 primaries

02 August 2016, 19:28

The independent electoral and boundaries commission {IEBC} will take charge of nominations for the new jubilee party before for the 2017 general elections.

According to Nakuru former TNA chairman Abdul Noor, the party has decided to let IEBC handled its primaries as one way of dealing with rampant rigging and manipulation of the process which is common with Kenyan political parties.

Noor said that all primaries from the ward level to the national level will be held on one day in all the counties with IEBC overseeing the process.

Speaking in an exclusive interview in Nakuru town on Monday, Noor said that the jubilee party trusts IEBC will deliver free and fair primaries for the party which will leave everyone satisfied.

“Going by the history of party primaries in Kenya, as the Jubilee party it has been agreed that we will allow IEBC to handle the process because our aim is to have free and fair nominations that will favour no one or discriminate against anybody,” said Noor.

“The primaries will be held on one day across the country and this will help in curbing cases of manipulation and rigging of the process as we have witnessed in the past,” he said.

He added “ As jubilee we want to set an example and show other parties that we can have free and fair nominations which will help in holding the party together rather than dividing it after the process,” .

The new jubilee party is expected to be launched in September after affiliate parties to the jubilee coalition agreed to dissolve and form a single party.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy Willaim Ruto are expected to use the new party in seeking re-election in 2014.
