Nairobi - IEBC protests are welcome in Nairobi, Governor Evans Kidero says.
Kidero says that as long as they are peaceful, as was the case last week, there is no reason to outlaw them.
" There were demos last week and they were very peaceful because the
police were not there. So the police should keep off these demos and
allow people to express their constitutional rights," Kidero said.
While insisting that protests are lawful, the Governor urged the protesters to be
peaceful as they seek to remove the IEBC commissioners out of office.
in Nairobi or anywhere else, demonstrations should be peaceful. When
you destroy property then you are destroying Kenya and with that you are asking Police to come in and take charge," he said.
He added that majority of Kenyans have no faith in the IEBC and urged the Isaac
Hassan led team to voluntarily resign.
" The country is bigger than
the commissioners and they should be patriotic enough and vacate
" Why should one stick in an office that is not his. This
is a public office. Kenyans have lost faith in them and they should
leave" he added.
The IEBC protests will continue starting Monday and also include Thursday.
