Nyeri - Police in Nyeri have arrested an IEBC clerk and a member of the Laikipia County Assembly for illegal transfer of voters.
They were arrested alongside 11 other people found transferring voters from Mweiga Ward in Kieni constituency to Tigithi Ward in Laikipia County.
It was suspected that the MCA wanted to increase her support in the Ward.
Kieni West OCPD, John Kemboi said police were acting on a tip from members of the public.
Kemboi said the suspects were found at the house of one of the residents, Mary Wanjiru. The IEBC clerk had a Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kit.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that those who were transferred were each paid KES 1,000.

“He was arrested some 30 kilometres inside Kieni and we are sure he was aware he had trespassed into another region,” said Muhia.
