Nairobi - The Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga has welcomed the proposal by the Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka that the cord coalition field single candidate on the coalition's ticket in the 2017 polls.
In a press statement from his Press Secretary Denis Onyango, Raila said that the proposal by the Wiper movement's leader will give a chance to smaller parties to retain their identity.
"CORD leader Rt. Hon Raila Odinga is in agreement with the proposal by co-principal Hon Kalonzo Musyoka’s for joint nominations between the parties forming the CORD and the fielding of candidates on CORD flag in a similar fashion with that of Narc in 2002 elections", read the statement.
Raila said that the move will also help the coalition avoid competition between constituent parties that saw them split votes and lose seats in some cases.
"All parties will present candidates for nomination and the overall winner will fly the coalition’s ticket as ODM/ CORD, Wiper/ CORD or Ford Kenya/CORD. The coalition will encourage the other parties willing to come on board to support this arrangement that enables them retain their identity while flying the corporate CORD flag", Raila said.
