I just can't wash his dishes

30 November 2015, 19:00 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - I just can't wash his dishes.

Some man asked me if I could wash his utensils for him. I told him I had just done my nails. He tells me, ‘Na unajipenda.’ (You like yourself a lot) In that tone that was meant to guilt trip me into actually doing it. I told him it was not news, my mum says the same thing, and she buys me gloves to wash hers for her. Needless to say, he was very disappointed because I continued eating my food and watching television. His help came and did it later. He is not my boyfriend, my husband, my anything and I was not trying to be his anything so it all worked out. Do I want a relationship from him? No.

But what about you? Do you think your ego is so big it is turning off men? You should still not wash anything until he claims you as his anything.

Having pride in your self-worth is not a bad thing but some people take it a bit too far even while they are actually in a relationship.

You have such high demands yet you do not even look them

Demanding for things from someone like they are your father and they should sort it out for you is definitely a turnoff. Someone is looking for a relationship; it is not Adopt-a-child. You cannot eat some places because they are below you. You cannot interact with some people because they are not on your level; what is your level? Asking for expensive dates yet someone barely knows you. You are acting like that now, what will happen when they are with you? That is why they run.

You are in a relationship but for you it is not give and take but take, take, and do some more taking

You cannot expect your partner to do things for you but you raise your nose at doing an equally good turn. You have a ton of excuses as to why you cannot do this or that. It is not how you were brought up. You do not know, so learn although we know it is just that, an excuse. That relationship is one sided and soon enough someone will get tired of you and look for somebody else who treats them as they would like. Ego in a relationship has never made anything better neither has pride. No one wants to have to deal with someone who thinks they are above them.
