I do not abuse women, DP Ruto says

Nairobi - DP William Ruto says that he does not abuse women and that he firmly respects them.
The DP's office was reacting to a statement by Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua that he insulted her marriage during a meeting with Busia MCA's.
The DP was accused by Mutua of talking ill of her marriage and insinuating that she was from a different region and should not be an elected official in western Kenya.
But the DP, through spokesperson David Mugonyi, says that the DP respects women and that Mutua's comments are blown out of proportion.
" The DP respects women very highly and for an elected official to insinuate different shows that there is something else that is the agenda," he said.
He urged Mutua to concentrate on defending her seat instead of trying to win sympathy using the DP's name.
" I urge her to serve her people without dragging the DP's name into it," he added.
Mutua had stated that the DP called on leaders in the region to abandon her, since she was from the Kamba community, a fact she says is irrelevant.
The DP is currently trying to woo voters from the region to join the Jubilee Coalition, a push that has rubbed some the wrong way in recent times.
