Hundreds of youths in Mombasa duped into a hoax employment vacancy

15 August 2016, 13:54 Gabriel Ngallah

Mombasa - Hundreds of youths in Mombasa who were caught up in an employment hoax from a Face book account are now demanding back their amount they were told to send to a recipient.

The post which appeared in Mombasa’s Women representative Mishi Mboko facebook page asked all those with certificate, Diploma, degree or masters in any field to send their Curriculum vitae to mishimboko@gmail.com so that they get employment.

After hundreds of positive comments from many youths especially from Likoni area where the Leader hails from, many later received text messages that their applications were successful.

They were also told to reply with their email addresses to the same number owned by one Kennedy Otieno Odera and they were sent a detailed report of the vacancy, the post of an assistant program officer in each sub county country wide.

The organization in the name ‘Slim Pelu East Africa Relief’ (SPEAR) in conjunction with ‘Cross International’ and ‘Amnesty International’ were in need of Programs Officer all over the Country and the payment of between KES 56,450 and 85,295 is what attracted hundreds of youths to quickly apply for the job.

However, the source of the vacancy Doctor Kennedy Thaddeus Otieno Odera (PHD) SPEAR, demanded KES. 2027 from each of the applicant as charges for a NGO registration pin (Non Governmental Organization Trade Union-NGOTU) where most of the youth realized that the announcement might be a pure hoax.

When contacted, Mboko denied having posted such vacancy and immediately warned youth against sending any money to such unknown people.

“I have already pulled down the announcement on my face book page but am as well investigating the issue my account may be hacked” said Mboko when she was contacted on Saturday.

However, for those who tried to call the number, it went unanswered though some youths have already sent the money so as to secure the first chances.

The email further explained that those who will be working in South Sudan will be earning a total of USD 873 which is equivalent to KES. 85, 295, for those who will be working in Kenya and North Eastern, parts of the Rift valley and Nyanza will be earning a total of KSH. 58, 984  and a daily allowance of KES. 715.

For those who will be in Nairobi, the vacancy further said will be pocketing KES. 56, 450 every month, and a daily allowance of KES 478.

Since the figures were more attractive, Hundreds of youths went ahead and applied for the job as well as sending money to the same Kennedy Otieno Odera.

The youths are now appealing to Misho Mboko to come clear on the issue and make a public announcement to evade more youths from such trap.

“Though some of us are already alerted, many of our colleagues are still sending money to the same number we received text from, can Mboko make a public announcement over the same issue” said Ramla Athman one of the youths from Likoni who quickly applied for the vacancy of a ‘Program assistant’ with SPEAR.
