How selfishnes destroys relationships

29 June 2016, 10:41 Solomon Opala

Relationships are about loving, sharing and considering the interest of others as they do the same for us.

Selfishness on the other hand destroys relationships. It is the antithesis of love and the foremost cause of arguments, separations, and even wars between nations.

Every disagreement starts with self-centeredness. The holy Bible tells us clearly why we have divisions:

“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? - James 4:1.

To have healthy relationships, we need to embrace selflessness. This means having less of “me” and more of “you.”

It encourages one to consider others more highly than themselves. In other words, you place other person’s needs before your own (Philippians 2:4).

Selflessness brings out the best in others. It builds trust in relationships. In fact, Jesus said, “Only those who throw away their lives for my sake and for the sake of the Good News will ever know what it means to really live” (Mark 8:35).

Many have chosen to be like diamonds - shiny, beautiful but cold and menacing at the same time.

Life is about sharing, loving others and putting a smile on the long faces in the neighborhood.

Nothing can take the place of love in the world, not even all the gold of the Indies. People were created to receive and give love. While lust takes and asks for more, love gives and continues to give.
