Nairobi - The IEBC talks currently taking place between the government and opposition were instigated by US President Barrack Obama. Well, slightly.
The ongoing talks have been moving quickly after both sides agreed to sit down following weeks of protests and ugly scenes in the country which led to thr death of a number of protesters.
The talks have been chaperoned by US Ambassador Bob Godec and his UK counterpart Nick Hailey.
It is understood though that the main motivation for the talks was that the US President Obama who sent a personal message to both leaders to ensure the talks are successful so as to ensure peace in the country.
" The US President insisted to the leaders that they have a responsibility to ensure that the country is safe and peaceful despite their different interests," a source close to State House told News24.
Obama is said to closely follow the country's developments and was worried by the protests that saw 5 people killed.
The two political outfits expect to announce a deal soon to end the impasse with the IEBC.
